Useful Arts Camp

The Useful Arts Camp challenges people 15-18 years old to solve real-world problems in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative setting. Each summer, the camp puts forward a new suite of problems to be solved using engineering, math, science, and whatever else is necessary.

The Bicycle

The bicycle is the emblem of the Useful Arts revolution. Practical, elegant, and an expression of independence, the bicycle is the ultimate human invention. The art of bicycle making and mechanics is the Society for Useful Art's first project.

The Society for Useful Arts is a collective of craftsmen, tinkerers, and engineers dedicated to creating practical tools for the modern world.

At the dawn of the industrial revolution, the Useful Arts became an umbrella term for the various skills and trades associated with engineering. The Society for Useful Arts embraces this archaic term and applies it to today’s realities. We celebrate the heritage and culture of craftsmanship, and support Useful Artisans who are engaged with innovation, nature, and community.
